Call for dental education programme

As the debate continues over whether the Isle of Man's public water supply should be flouridated, an experienced dental hygienist says she believes the move would be a good one, but it would need to be coupled with a programme to educate the population on oral health.

The DHSS is sending out leaflets to local households in support of flouridation as part of its public consultation exercise, but there remains a vociferous campaign on the Island against the idea.

Anne Derbyshire says dental caries is a real problem among local children, but if fluoride was added to the water parents would still need proper advice on helping their children look after their teeth:
