Fire fighters back from trip to Romania

The Manx fire fighters who spent last week training volunteer firemen in Romania arrive back on the Isle of Man today.

The team of retired and serving firefighters travelled overland to the Eastern European country in three de-commissioned fire engines, including a 'Simon Snorkel' platform unit, which were donated to the people of Romania by the Manx Government.

Chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee George Waft officially handed over the vehicles and watched the newly-trained Romanian crews put them through their paces.

Local firemen Tony Varley and Justin McMullan say it was hard work for everyone but a fantastic experience (audio file attached):
