Former Ramsey MHK and member of the Legislative Council Leonard Singer (pictured) made an impressive return to local politics, topping the poll in the the town's South Ward in today's local authority general election.

He received 744 votes, easily beating second placed Richard Radcliffe who regained his seat with 567. Geoff Quayle was third with 484 votes and the other successful candidates were Sylvia Patricia Beattie (467), Kevin Alexander Crowe (430) and Edwina Carlisle (414).

The unsuccessful candiates in South Ward were Edward Thomas O'Sullivan (Liberal Vannin, 410) and William Quiggley (369).

In North Ward, new member Alexander John Allinson topped the poll with a massive 1,045 votes. The other sucessful candidates were Wilfred George Young (Liberal Vannin, 579), Kevin Brian Mayne (570), Nigel Malpass (Liberal Vannin, 535), Mary Bruce (500) and Brian Beattie (431). Nigel Malpass is another new face on the board.

The five contenders who didn't make the cut were Haurd Steven Bevan (420), David John Sugden (404), Janette Ferguson (318), John David McDonough (261) and Ross Gaggs (214). Janette Ferguson and Ross Gaggs lost their seats.
