Derbyhaven area re-opened

by isleofman.com 26th April 2008
The discovery of what was at first thought to be an unexploded bomb at Derbyhaven caused a security alert this morning (Saturday).

Police closed off Derbyhaven Road up to Turbot's Farm to the public, along with the footpath from Turkeylands quarry to the flying club.

It was found at around 10am by men working on new hangars near the airport's fire station.

Photographs of the device were sent to the Explosives Ordenance Department of the Royal Engineers for advice on what it was.

The area re-opened at about 3pm after it was recovered without incident and moved to a safe location.
