A Peel man who crashed his car while almost two and a half times over the drink-drive limit has been given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years.
Forty-four year-old David Tumblety, of Ballatessan Meadow, Peel, admitted drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it.
Tumblety was arrested in the early hours of April 11, an hour after hitting a car in Springfield Avenue, Douglas and causing damage to two other vehicles.
The defendant's blood/alcohol level was 195mg.
His advocate said Tumblety, who was on his way home to Peel at the time, had problems dealing with bereavement and had turned to alcohol to cope.
He panicked after colliding with the car and was deeply remorseful for what he had done.
In addition to the suspended sentence High Bailiff Michael Moyle imposed a fine of ?500 with costs of ?220, and banned Tumblety from driving for 33 months.
