Beware cold-callers

Don't be caught-out by shoddy builders cold-calling this Bank Holiday weekend.

That message from the Island's Office of Fair Trading - which traditionally sees a surge in rogue builders touring neighbourhoods in the Spring.

The OFT says many of us want home improvements carried out quickly but we're being warned not to make hasty decisions.

Advice from the OFT includes get a written quote and find out the firm's address; and don't just accept a mobile phone number.

Chief Inspector of Trading Standards John Peet says householders can be caught on the hop when a trader knocks on the door (audio file attached):
