Hunger strike makes news in UK

by isleofman.com 6th May 2008
The hunger strike at Victoria Road jail has been making headlines in the United Kingdom.

The Observer newspaper ran a story about the protest against the newly-introduced smoking ban, saying the prison was the only one in Britain to ban smoking.

The Department of Home Affairs confirmed a number of prisoners were still refusing meals on Saturday.

They are being monitored by healthcare officials at the jail and have been advised about the effects of starving themselves.
