Cutting edge discovery as sword uncovered

by isleofman.com 6th May 2008
Part of a Viking sword, including fragments of its pommel, have been discovered in the north west of the Island.

Two members of the Manx Detectorists Society made the find, and recognised them at once for what they were.

The pommel (handle) is divided into five parts and is finely decorated. The blade of the sword has not survived.

After further research, the fragments will be displayed in the Museum, in the new Viking and medieval Gallery.
