April 13th - in Keys today

by isleofman.com 13th May 2008
The recent demise of airline EuroManx will be raised in the House of Keys today.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson has an emergency question tabled for Chief Minister Tony Brown in which he asks "Will you make a full and frank statement with regards to the apparent collapse of EuroManx airlines, the current situation, effects on the airline for public and business alike, and what has been put in place to alleviate the dire situation in the short term"

Other questions include issues surrounding the Airport runway extension and the Middle River Civic Amenity site.

Marian Kenny reports:

David Quirk will ask the Local Government minister to agree to mediation in the dispute at Middle River.

He wants to know what the department's legal costs are to date - and what bills have been run up by local authorities in Douglas, Braddan and Onchan.

His other question is on apprentice numbers in the construction industry and government departments.

Fellow Onchan member Peter Karran has the other three questions

He'll again raise the deal with Balfour Beatty for the runway extension - the firm is being scrutinised in a UK Office of Fair Trading inquiry into construction industry cartels.

He'll also ask the Island's OFT chairman to consider offering financial incentives for information on cartels.

Later the Keys will be asked to receive a report from a Tynwald committee which recommends pay rises for the Island's top legal officials.
