by isleofman.com 13th May 2008
An Onchan man who has made a huge contribution to many aspects of Manx life, particularly agriculture, is set to become the second ever recipient of the Tynwald Honour.

Well-known member of the Island's farming community, 87 year-old Harvey Briggs, was one of 18 individuals nominated for the award this year.

It is the highest honour Tynwald can bestow on an individual and, subject to the Court's approval, Mr Briggs will receive the medal on Tynwald Day.

Mr Briggs, of Ballakilmartin, is delighted (audio file attached):

Mr Briggs is the farming correspondent for Isle of Man Newspapers and recently celebrated 50 years in journalism. He is also Captain of the Parish of Onchan.
