Candidate withdraws from by-election

by isleofman.com 13th May 2008
With two days to go to the local authority by-election in Port Erin, one of the candidates has withdrawn.

The village board has confirmed that Edward McBride - a traineee electrician, of Ballafurt Road - won't be taking part.

Mr McBride's name will feature on all the ballot papers but, in the unusual circumstances, people are being told not to vote for him.

It leaves two candidates for the single vacant seat.

They are chartered accountant Justin Unsworth, of Erin Way, and housewife Michele Wirtz, of Glenview Terrace.

The polling station for Thursday's election will be at the commissioners' offices in Bridson Street, and voting will be for twelve hours from 8am.
