Manx produce and farming in spotlight

by isleofman.com 17th May 2008
The Island's meat and dairy farmers are being urged to support a new grouping aimed at promoting Manx produce - and ensuring the survival of Manx farming.

The Isle of Man Agricultural Marketing Society is holding its first AGM next Tuesday evening.

Top of the agenda - how to deal with the termination of the meat derogation set for the end of 2010, which will open the Island up to cheap imports.

Manx Telecom's Managing Director Chris Hall (pictured) may seem an unusual choice as speaker.

But he'll describe how the firm dealt with being transformed from being a monopoly to competing in an open market.

Society company secretary, Derek Legg, says it's important not to lose focus on this issue when farmers are facing so many other challenges (audio file attached):

The meeting is being held at 8pm on Tuesday at the Glen Helen Inn.
