The first basking shark of the 2008 season has been spotted.
It was seen on Saturday afternoon from a boat, half a mile off Peel breakwater
While sightings of the animals are made almost year round in Manx waters, the vast bulk of sightings are reported during the summer months, particularly in June and July.
Despite their vast size there is still remarkably little known about the creatures' life cycle, and it's hoped another five can be satellite tagged this year to allow further study of their behaviour.
