Tynwald President absent (with leave)

by isleofman.com 20th May 2008
For the first time in his Tynwald career, President Noel Cringle will be absent from this month's sitting.

Noel Cringle (pictured) has been invited to stay at the Queen's Official residence in Scotland, Holyrood House in Edinburgh.

It means Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan will be in charge of proceedings.

There are 46 items on the order paper.

Members will be asked to approve the third phase of the Janet's Corner re-development in Castletown at a cost of ?7.33 million pounds.

The Treasury Minister will carry out an annual tidying up exercise concerning expenditure.

With regard to capital projects for the past year there has been an over spend of just over ?400 thousand pounds.

There will then be a call to review and streamline the Island's public pension schemes, an attempt to de-regulate the Isle of Man's taxi trade, which was the cause of strike action over the weekend.

And if Tynwald agrees to spending ?636 thousand pounds on the purchase and renovation of Bradda Glen and headlands, there could be a marine themed cafe and visitor accommodation.

The sitting gets underway with questions from 10.30 this morning and will be broadcast live on Manx radio's Am 1368 frequency.
