Prison warning for future sign thieves

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2008
High Bailiff Michael Moyles says the next person appearing before his court accused of stealing TT signs will go to prison.

He spoke out as two teenage Manchester United fans admitted theft and were find ?500 each.

Michael Andrew Crellin of Ballanowin, Strang and Geoffrey John Crennell of Keppell Road, Willaston, took three signs last night.

The court was told both are apprentices at the Department of Transport.

Mr Moyle heard the two 18 year-olds had been watching the European Cup final at the Cat With No Tail pub and had each drunk ten cans of lager.

Neither had any previous convictions, and both expressed their remorse to the court for taking the prohibited area signs from Selbourne Drive.

He said both had narrowly escaped a custodial sentence, but warned others wouldn’t be so lucky in future.

Mr Moyle said this should be a warning to anybody else caught stealing the signs that the court viewed the matter very seriously.
