by isleofman.com 3rd June 2008
Police have confirmed that a man was killed in an accident in Jurby yesterday afternoon (Mon).

It happened just before 3pm on the Coast road around three quarters of a mile on the Ballaugh side of the new prison, and involved an 'Urban Tiger' styled Honda Fireblade bike and a blue Ford Transit van.

The bike, which was heading towards Bride, collided almost head on with the van on a sharp bend.

The rider of the bike, a visitor from Denmark, received fatal injuries in the accident.

The van driver, a man from Scotland, and the other occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.

The road was closed for some four hours whilst collision investigation enquiries were carried out.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone who thinks they may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision is asked to contact the Roads policing unit at police headquarters on 631212.

Meanwhile, police have named the French rider who was killed in an accident at the 11th milestone on Sunday.

He was Christian Roland Houlie, a 52 year old man from Ouzilly, France.

Mr Houlie was on the Island with friends to watch the TT races. His family have been informed of his death.

Again officers investigating the incident are appealing for information. His Yamaha XJR collided with a Land Rover Discovery.

An Inquest into the cause of the death is expected to take place later this week.
