Biker inquest adjourned

by isleofman.com 4th June 2008
Coroner of Inquests Michael Moyle has adjourned a hearing into the death of a teenage biker last year.

18 year old Darren Self died in a crash at Ballahutchin on Peel Road on December 19th.

This morning, the court was told Robert Brisco Macgregor Quayle of Mullen Beg, Patrick, will face charges in connection with the incident.

His advocate said he was anxious not to answer any questions which might prejudice his trial for driving without due care and attention.

Mr Moyle, sitting as coroner, said he was reluctant to adjourn the case as he’d already refused an application by the family for adjournment.

When criminal proceedings are active, he said it was usual for inquests to go ahead before a summary court heard the case.

He pointed out Mr Quayle could refuse to answer any questions he thought might incriminate himself and no inferences could be drawn from that during an inquest.

But he agreed to adjourn the hearing until a date to be fixed in July.
