Call for consultation over elderly care plan

There is a mixed reaction to a decision by the DHSS to halt admissions to three of the Island's long-stay elderly care homes.

Glenside and Reayrt ny Baie in Douglas and Cummal Mooar in Ramsey will stop taking new patients from this Sunday.

The shake-up will see more care in the community, to help elderly people stay in their own homes for longer.

Secretary of the employees' side of Whitley Council Bernard Moffatt (pictured) says the plan announced yesterday is being driven forward without the staff being consulted.

He says although looking after the elderly at home may be a good idea, it needs the support of care staff to work:
