College nursery row rumbles on

A union official is calling for a re-think over plans to close the Isle of Man College nursery.

The Department of Education last week announced the nursery will close in August.

The department and the college’s governing body both believe nursery provision can be obtained more cost-effectively by subsidising child care for students with young children from private sector providers.

But Unite's regional industrial organiser Mick Hewer (pictured) doesn’t think that will necessarily solve the problem:
