Whittaker buys into Land Securities

Manx businessman John Whittaker, the richest man on the Island according to the Times Rich List, has bought a significant stake in Europe’s largest property company.

The owner of Peel Holdings has bought four per cent of Land Securities, according to stock exchange filings, worth around ?260m.

Mr Whittaker is now the third biggest investor in the group after Barclays and Legal & General, and bought the shares through his offshore company Albright Investments.

Land Securities holds more than ?14 billion in property, primarily commercial space in central London.
