Batsmen make their mark

by isleofman.com 9th June 2008
It was a great day for batsmen in the Standard Bank Premiership on Saturday, with two sides scoring over three hundred runs and three players racking up centuries.

Simon Watson and Kevin Kniveton shone for Crosby against Peel.

They came together after the loss of an early wicket and dominated the bowling; Watson made 128 and Kniveton hit 139 not out as their side finished on 305 for 2.

Peel could only reach 137 in reply, helped by a lively 38 from John Hacking.

Ollie Webster had a tremendous game for Ramsey against Valkyres.

First he smashed 149 as the northerners ran up a mammoth total of 380, then opened the bowling and took four wickets as they restricted their opponents to just 49.

There was also a noteable bowling performance from Chris McConnell, who had a marvellous spell of five wickets for seven runs at one point.

Castletown had a convincing victory over St John's, bowling them out for 104 and then losing just two wickets in chasing their target.

Christian Steriopulos made 44 not out for Town and was well supported by Richard McGarry's 33.
