Ark Royal heads for Island

by isleofman.com 9th June 2008
The Isle of Man will enjoy its first visit from an aircraft carrier in more than ten years this evening.

The Ark Royal will sail into Douglas Bay around 9pm and stay for around 30 minutes, before heading up through the North Channel to the west of Ireland.

The Lieutenant Governor, President of Tynwald and Chief Minister will all be on board and will be flown back to the Island by helicopter.

Commanding Officer of the Royal Navy's flagship Captain Mike Mansergh says it will be a fleeting visit, but he will do what he can to ensure people get a good view of the ship (audio file attached):

Captain Mike Mansergh was speaking to Stuart Peters, live on Mandate.
