Kerbside collection looks likely

The Isle of Man's first large scale kerbside collection scheme will take a big step forward next week, if Tynwald approves funding of ?? million.

The recycling initiative, similar to those already operating throughout the United Kingdom, will involve two colour-coded, plastic boxes being issued to each of 16,000 homes in Douglas, Onchan and Braddan.

Subject to Tynwald's approval, the Department of the Environment aims to distribute the containers in October, by which time three kerbside collection vehicles would be available to collect the materials.

He hopes the introduction of the new scheme won't mean the recycling 'bring banks' around the Island will be used less:
