A community-watch scheme aimed at reducing crime around schools in the east of the Island is being launched later this week.
People living near 11 primary schools in the area are being asked to report vandals, thieves and drunks to police.
'School Watch' will work in a similar way to Neighbourhood Watch and Business Watch.
It is hoped people living close to the schools will be extra sets of eyes and ears for local police.
Neighbours are being asked to look out for criminal behaviour, anyone acting suspiciously on school property or grounds, and speeding drivers - and report them to police.
As with neighbourhood and business watch schemes, the aim is to involve the wider community in reducing crime and anti social behaviour
Posters will be put up around the schools and postcards sent to local residents so the whole neighbourhood knows it is a school watch area.
The scheme is being launched by the Eastern Neighbourhood Partnership - a problem solving forum of police, local authoritieis, government departments and other agencies
It will be launched at Ashley Hill primary school on Thursday.
