Minister proposes minimum wage rise

by isleofman.com 10th June 2008
Minister for Trade and Industry David Cretney (pictured) has overridden the suggestion of the Minimum Wage Committee and increased the level to ?6 an hour.

The proposal, which is subject to approval by Tynwald in October, represents a rise of over seven per cent.

The Committee suggested a rise from ?5.60 to ?5.85 an hour (audio file attached):

It's suggested the minimum wage for 16 and 17 year olds in the Isle of Man should remain at ?4.67 and ?5.24 respectively.

In the United Kingdom the minimum hourly rates will increase from ?3.40 to ?3.53 for 16 and 17 year olds, and from ?4.60 to ?4.77 for those in the 18 to 21 age group.
