'What do you need?' - carers asked

by isleofman.com 11th June 2008
The work of the Isle of Man's silent army of carers is in the spot light, during National Carers' Week.

it's thought as many as 10,000 people in the Island care for a close friend or relative, performing a vital service at home which would otherwise cost the health service millions of pounds.

The focus this week is on the needs of carers, who often work long stretches without a break.

Director of Social Services Andrew Swithinbank (pictured) says his department is asking carers groups what they need to ease the burden (audio file attached):

Andrew Swithinbank was speaking to Stuart Peters on Mandate.
