Minimum wage - the fight goes on

The proposed increase in the minimum wage to ?6 an hour is a step in the right direction, but still not enough.

That's the reaction of union leaders at Unite to the rise, which is well above the rate of inflation.

They want the minimum wage set at ?8.15 to mirror the wages of the lowest-paid public sectors workers.

DTI minister David Cretney will ask Tynwald to support the 7.1 per cent increase, in Tynwald next week.

But Regional Industrial organiser for Unite on the Island, Mick Hewer (pictured), says they will continue to fight for a more substantial hike:
