Employee stole cash from Post Office

by isleofman.com 12th June 2008
A 53 year-old man has been given 240 hours community service after admitting stealing ?1,897 from Bride Post Office, where he was in charge.

Michael Edward Campbell, of Glen Chass, Port St Mary appeared before the High Bailiff, Michael Moyle.

His advocate said the defendant took the money after finding himself in serious financial difficulties, but re-paid it all in five days after selling his car.

However, between selling the car and receiving the cash to repay the money the Post Office carried out an audit.

Mr Moyle said it was a serious breach of trust, but he was taking all mitigating factors into account.

He said the theft was not consistent, it was a one-off over a short period of time and the money was repaid.

He accepted the problems that Campbell had in his personal life.
