Health official on dangers of sunbeds

The Isle of Man's Public Health Directorate will not press for a ban on under-18s using sunbeds, but it is urging extreme caution.

New legislation was expected to be passed in Scotland today under which young people wouldn't be able to use tanning salons, or buy or hire sunbeds.

Studies show people who use sunbeds under the age of 35 face a 70 per cent increased risk of malignant melanoma, the most severe form of skin cancer.

Senior Health Promotions Officer Angela Howland (pictured) says people need to rememember that, contrary to popular belief, a tan is not healthy:
