Parents are being warned not to deceive the government with fraudulent child benefit claims.
It follows an exercise carried out by the DHSS, prompted by concerns people were receiving payments for children living overseas.
Eight claims were stopped and, in a further 17 cases, steps are being taken to recover overpayments.
