DHSS supports new UK campaign

The DHSS is strongly supporting the latest anti-smoking campaign in the United Kingdom, which says children of smokers are three times more likely to take up the habit.

It features photographs including a toy dumper truck full of cigarette-ends, and a young boy pretending a crayon is a cigarette, as he looks at himself in a mirror.

Previous campaigns have focused on the direct and indirect effects of smoking on health, but Public Health Tobacco Strategy Co-ordinator Anita Imberger says the latest one takes the message a stage further:
