Jock Waddington wins CMI Parish Walk

The 2008 Clerical Medical Parish Walk will go down as having the worst conditions in the event's history.

Walkers had to battle against torrential rain, strong winds and fog almost from the start.

The 24 hour time limit to complete the event passed at 8am.

An impressive 121 determined walkers had crossed the finishing line on Douglas Promenade.

The surprise winner - Jock Waddington in 15 hours, 44 minutes, 43 seconds - a superb time in the conditions.

Our sports editor Tim Glover joined the crowds as Jock strode home and, a few moments later congratulated Jock on an amazing achievement (audio file attachment):

Favourite Robbie Callister fisnished 25 minutes behind Jock with a time of 16-09-12.

Maurice Bellando held on in a close battle for third place.

Behind him Michael George, and the first woman home, Sue Biggart.

Her time 16-42-09.

Bethany Clague is now on her second lap as she attempts TWO Parish Walks back-to-back.

Bethany passd the finishing line for the first time around 5am this morning - after a short break she was off again.
