It's National Whale and Dolphin Week across the British Isles and everybody is being encouraged to get involved.
The head of the Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch, John Galpin, says public awareness of basking sharks has greatly increased, and they are relatively easy to spot.
Other members of our marine menagerie are less well known and a little more reluctant to be seen, but Mr Galpin hopes the week will change that (audio file attached):
