Minister remembers first woman MLC

Education Minister Anne Craine has paid tribute to Betty Hanson.

Mrs Hanson, who was the first woman to be elected as a Member of the Legislative Council, died last week, aged 89.

She served on the Board of Education for many years and was instrumental in the creation of the Queen Elizabeth the Second High School in Peel.

Mrs Craine (pictured) says Mrs Hanson will be well remembered for her contributions to education on the Island and perhaps even more for her links to the North American Manx Awards, which are given out every year:
