Life saving demonstration in Peel

by isleofman.com 3rd July 2008
An increasingly popular device for saving lives at sea will be put through its paces at Peel lifeboat station this afternoon.

The RNLI is inviting small boat owners to a demonstration of the 'M.O.B. Guardian' man overboard system, which is currently being fitted to a third of the 60 or so fishing vessels based in the Island.

The system uses satellite technology to provide pinpoint locations of vessels in distress, and the Manx Government is offering subsidies to enable more people to get the system on board.

According to the RNLI, the government wants all the Island's fishing boat owners to make the investment.

Last week the equipment saved the lives of three fishermen off the Channel Island of Sark.
