New fast craft impresses

The Steam Packet's latest acquisition has been demonstrating her capabilities in poor weather.

The Incat 050 catamaran is on her way from Tasmania to Portsmouth where she will undergo a full refit, with the aim of coming into service on Isle of Man routes next year.

She is running behind schedule because of storms along the way, but Steam Packet Chief Executive Mark Woodward says she has proved to be a revelation in bad weather.

The new vessel is 96 metres long, 22 metres longer than the current fast craft, Snaefell.

She uses rather a lot of fuel, but Mr Woodward (pictured) is confident she is the right choice:
