A man has appeared in court on serious charges in connection with 'a firearms incident' in Douglas this week.

The police firearms team was called to Marathon Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and detained 37-year old Brian Parton.

Mr Parton faces a series of charges, including arson, being reckless as to whether anyone's life would be endangered and assault.

He is also accused of several offences of criminal damage.

Few details are known about the incident which led to the charges but, at the time, police said no member of the public was in any danger.
