Charity scam warning

by isleofman.com 6th July 2008
The police are warning about a telephone charity scam after reports of people being cold called and asked to give money.

The caller, requesting money for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Organisation, asks for personal bank details to set up a direct debit for monthly donations.

Sergeant Rosie Hawes says that at no time should you give your bank details to anyone over the phone, unless you're certain of who the caller is.

The Red Cross have stated while calls of this nature may well be made by their national headquarters in London, at no time would they ask for personal details and would instead recommend people donate to their local branch.

If you have any information contact Sgt. Hawes at Onchan Police Station on 675190.
