Ten petitions for redress of grievance are awaiting inspection by a Tynwald committee, after being handed over at yesterday's open air sitting at St John's.

The Standing Orders Committee will decide whether they can progress to the next stage, which could see them being 'taken up' by an MHK or MLC.

Topics covered include a perceived need for more NHS dentists, water rates and legal costs in planning cases.

Kevin Glynn and Greeba Skinner are unhappy with way the DHSS handled issues surrounding the fluoridation debate, and David Boyles wants a select committee to look at the conduct of Manx National Heritage, following his thwarted plans for an extension to a property at Cregneash.

Martin Moore wants the body which licenses taxis in the Island to be answerable to the high bailiff, and David Kelly wants a committee to look at the payment system for water rates.

Donald Whittaker, of Ballasalla, is concerned that high legal costs mean the planning system currently favours the well off; Margaret Lombard-Chibnall wants an assurance the decision to re-open three long-stay care homes for the elderly is a permanent one; and Joe Duffy believes there aren't enough dentists in the Island, particularly NHS ones.

Inadequate incapacity benefits, the flow of 'unnecessary personal data from the Island', and concerns over the coverage, by Isle of Man Newspapers, of the fluoridation debate are the subjects of petitions notified to Manx Radio in advance of the sitting.
