Cavendish claims first place

by isleofman.com 9th July 2008
Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish has claimed victory for the first time in this year’s Tour de France.

It marks his first Tour Stage win, in stage five of the 232-kilometre run from Cholet to Chateroux.

He pipped Spain’s Oscar Freire and German Erik Zabel to the winning post a short time ago.

Cavendish burst into the lead in the last 200 metres of the stage and the sprinters overtook French champion Nicolas Vogondy.
