Heroin 'supplier' avoids custody

by isleofman.com 9th July 2008
An Onchan woman who supplied heroin to a man who subsequently died has been given a twelve month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by the High Bailiff.

Leanne McKee, of Nursery Avenue admitted supplying the drug, possessing it and possessing cannabis resin.

McKee supplied Darren Coxon with heroin and voluntarily went to police headquarters after he was found dead in May.

She told police, at his request, she had given him a small amount and following her arrest a small piece of cannabis resin was found at her home.

McKee stressed that Mr Coxon had asked her for the drug.

Her advocate said that presenting herself at police headquarters showed an element of the deep remorse which she felt and which would remain with her forever.

She had issues regarding drugs and was working with agencies to combat problems.

Mr Moyle said it was a difficult matter to deal with and he had to mark the seriousness of what had happened. However, he accepted Mr Coxon wasn't a complete novice regarding drugs and McKee had supplied him as a friend, not as a dealer. He added that he had to take into account the substantial mitigation of the fact that McKee had gone to police headquarters herself.
