A 26 year-old 'joy-rider' who took a bus and crashed it into a shop window in Peel has been jailed for four months by the High Bailiff, Michael Moyle.
David Priestnall of Hillary Road, Douglas admitted taking the vehicle from the Peel depot and driving it without insurance or a driving licence.
The court heard the prank caused ?38,000 worth of damage.
Marian Kenny reports (text, below, from attached audio file):
Priestnall and another climbed into the vehicle in the early evening of Saturday, May 19 last year.
Their actions caused the bus to career out of control down Athol Place and smash into the front window of estate agents Black Grace Cowley.
The defendant's advocate urged for a suspended or community sentence, but Mr Moyle said the matter was too serious as the defendant's actions put others at risk.
Priestnall had run off but handed himself into police two days after the incident, for which Mr Moyle gave him some credit.
He was disqualified from driving for two years.
