Allan Street incident - man due in court

A 48 year-old man is due in court this morning, in connection was an incident in Allan Street, Douglas on Tuesday.

He faces two charges of making threats to kill, and one of Affray.

The man, who hasn't been named, has been detained at Police Headquarters.

There was serious disruption in the area, with roads near two primary schools sealed-off and local residents told to stay indoors.

East Douglas MHK Phil Braidwood received a stream of calls from anxious constituents.

He admits the sight of firearms officers was alarming but says the safety of local people was paramount for the police (audio file attached):
