by isleofman.com 17th July 2008
A Douglas man who made false statements to obtain over ?4,000 in social security benefits has been bailed by the High Bailiff for reports.

Paul Eric Craig of Westmoreland Road admitted eight offences, all committed between September 2006 and December 2007.

Pamela Butterworth, prosecuting, said the defendant was paid a carer's allowance for his mother and signed each time for his money.

However, he didn't tell the DHSS he was employed at various times by the Manx Co-operative Society, or when he moved off the Island to a public house in Manchester.

Miss Butterworth said as a result of the false statements Craig was overpaid ?4,082.

He was bailed until August 12.
