by isleofman.com 18th July 2008
The Clerk of Tynwald is preparing to hang up his wig.

Malachy Cornwell-Kelly has attended his final sitting after seven years, and before he left the chamber members gave him a standing ovation.

Graham Bell reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Mr Cornwell-Kelly (pictured) is due to leave his role at the end of September.

President Noel Cringle praised the 'professional and dignified way'he had upheld the office and went on to commend Clerk Phil Le Bao, who is leaving to take up a post at Port Erin Baptist Church.

There were congratulations for Senior Tynwald messenger Derek Brown who celebrate his 80th birthday tomorrow, and Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish who won a remarkable third stage in the Tour de France today, and is looking ahead to the Olympics in three weeks time.

The President also commended members for their hard work over the past year, and thanked all those involved in the Tynwald Day celebrations last week.
