Bellis set to go pro

by isleofman.com 26th July 2008
Manx cycling starlet Jonny Bellis has been given the chance to ride as a stagiaire for CSC Saxo Bank at the end of the season.

He's signed a contract but the team is waiting for Unione Cycliste International (UCI) authorisation before making it official

The Olympic Academy rider is set to begin his trial period at the Tour of Britain on September 7 when the Danish team line up for the first stage in central London.

If the try-out goes well Bellis could find himself riding alongside the likes of Fabian Cancellara, Frank Schleck and Jens Voigt in 2009 for one of the most successful teams in cycling.

It's more good news for the 19-year-old after the announcement a fortnight ago that he'll contest the Men's Road Race at the Beijing Olympics next month.
