The MHK for Michael says the people of Kirk Michael are disadvantaged with regard to health provision.
David Cannan says previously there had been a doctor from either the Peel or Ramsey practice resident in the village every afternoon of the week, which was then reduced to two afternoons per week in temporary accommodation after the Peel doctors withdrew.
However up to 2006 there had been provision for a new surgery in the DHSS budget and planning permission had been obtained.
Last week Health Minister Eddie Teare announced that the village will NOT now be getting a new surgery and instead two new surgeries will be built in Peel and Jurby.
Mr Cannan says he will continue to fight to ensure that the people of Michael and the surrounding areas have the same standard of healthcare as other villages on the Island.
Mr Cannan says it had always been the long term aim of the DHSS that Laxey, Ballasalla and Kirk Michael would receive new surgeries - and Mr Teare's decision to block the move is unacceptable:
