Foreign passports now proof of age

by isleofman.com 29th July 2008
Passports issued outside the Island can now be used as proof of age.

Previously only Manx and UK passports, IoM driving licences and IoM College cards could be used when buying alcohol, cigarettes, fireworks and certain DVDs and video games.

Tynwald has approved the use of any passport, or a European driving licence as proof of age. The 18+ cards issued by the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading are also now recognised as an official form of ID.

Restricting the proof of age documentation had led to difficulties for shopkeepers and newcomers to the Island who held passports issued outside the British Isles.
