DHSS requests 'no smoking' during visits

The Department of Health and Social Security is asking people NOT to smoke if they're expecting a home visit from a health worker.

Whilst the home is a last indoor refuge for smokers, it's also a place of work for people like district nurses and podiatrists.

At present the policy is one of gentle persuasion rather than an outright refusal to treat people who smoke.

DHSS Tobacco Strategy Co-ordinator Anita Imberger (pictured) says it's all a matter of balance:
