Community service for car criminal

by isleofman.com 1st August 2008
An 18 year-old man who stole and burnt a vehicle and slashed his ex-girlfriend's car tyres has been given 200 hours community service.

Jake Stephen Ford, of Ballalough, Andreas, also drove without a licence or insurance.

Ford and another man stole the car, which belonged to a vehicle repair firm, at the end of last month and drove it around the North of the Island before setting fire to it.

Ford's advocate told the court the car had been left with the keys in it and said his client was ashamed of his actions.

He's paid for the damage to the tyres and has apologised to his ex-girlfriend.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle said the matter was serious and ordered Ford to pay ?700 compensation for the car and ?100 costs in addition to the community service.

He was also banned from driving for 6 months.
